Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They invest an average of a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have received substantial medical education with an attention to on issues pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to address concerns stretching from familiar problems for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more challenging for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which provide them the skill needed to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best handled through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet usually encounter.
