Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in around ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles standard medical school and in fact many podiatry training programs are contained within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received considerable medical education with a main focus on complications regarding the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to deal with issues varying from usual disorders for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more obscure such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which give them the practical experience required to perform surgery on those concerns that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities empowers a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and prevent countless problems which the feet generally encounter.
