Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received wide-ranging healthcare education with a main focus on conditions concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to deal with problems ranging from common afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more intricate including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical instruction which supply them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous issues which the feet typically encounter.
