Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They put in an average of a decade in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact many podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received wide-ranging medical training with a concentration on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat problems ranging from simple ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have significant surgical training which give them the practical experience crucial to execute surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait problems makes it easy for a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and defend against a large number of issues which the feet commonly encounter.
