Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They spend about 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry programmes are contained within these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received wide-ranging medical education with an importance on complications concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to handle problems stretching from regular ailments such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more intricate like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical education which give them the practical experience needed to execute surgery on those issues that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities empowers a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and minimize the risk of numerous conditions which the feet usually encounter.
