Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have received comprehensive medical training with a focus on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to address conditions extending from familiar ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which provide them the expertise needed to carry out surgical treatment on those conditions that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and reduce the chances of many troubles which the feet typically experience.
