Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest about a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in fact many podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired wide-ranging medical training with a focus on concerns regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat difficulties ranging from common problems for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more sophisticated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which give them the prior experience needed to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and help prevent countless issues which the feet usually experience.
