Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They devote an average of a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact various podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired comprehensive medical training with an importance on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat problems varying from basic ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical instruction which supply them the expertise necessary to conduct surgery on those problems that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against a large number of troubles which the feet frequently experience.
