Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They devote about a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs lie inside these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received thorough medical training with an importance on problems concerning the ankles and feet. They are trained to treat problems ranging from usual conditions for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more intricate like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical instruction which give them the experience needed to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid many troubles which the feet frequently experience.
