Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received encompassing medical training with an emphasis on complications regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to deal with problems extending from usual disorders such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more puzzling for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical education which furnish them the skill essential to conduct surgery on those troubles that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and defend against a large number of issues which the feet routinely encounter.
