Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They spend approximately a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry training programs are located within these schools. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received extensive medical training with a stress on problems regarding the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to deal with concerns varying from standard ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more perplexing for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which supply them the experience necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and prevent numerous complications which the feet normally experience.
