Doctors at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programmes are contained within these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained wide-ranging health care education with a main focus on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are skilled to treat issues ranging from simple problems for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more puzzling for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical training which supply them the experience needed to carry out surgery on those complications that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and prevent countless complications which the feet commonly experience.
