Specialists at The Foot Institute – Camrose provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest around ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and numerous podiatry training programs lie within these institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical training with a main focus on issues concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to address problems varying from general ailments such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which provide them the practical experience required to conduct surgical treatment on those complications that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities permits a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of complications which the feet normally encounter.
