Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Camrose concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programs are located inside these schools. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have obtained significant healthcare training with a concentration on difficulties regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to treat complications varying from simple ailments such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more challenging such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical training which provide them the practical experience essential to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and protect against countless complications which the feet commonly encounter.
