Doctors at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programs are located inside these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have obtained comprehensive health care education with a focus on conditions regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to treat conditions ranging from simple problems such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which provide them the practical experience necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of problems which the feet normally encounter.
