Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received extensive medical instruction with an emphasis on issues concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat issues ranging from typical afflictions like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more complex like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have thorough surgical training which furnish them the skill needed to perform surgery on those issues that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and protect against many complications which the feet normally encounter.
