Physicians at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend about ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained wide-ranging medical instruction with an importance on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to handle issues stretching from familiar ailments like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more perplexing such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical instruction which provide them the expertise crucial to conduct surgical treatment on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and avoid many conditions which the feet usually encounter.
