Doctors at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists devote approximately 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and many podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have obtained thorough medical education with a concentration on issues regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are instructed to manage problems ranging from common afflictions like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more intricate for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which provide them the experience required to perform surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems allows a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous problems which the feet generally encounter.
