Physicians at The Foot Institute – Camrose concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They put in an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles usual medical school and in reality a number of podiatry training programs lie inside these schools. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received encompassing healthcare instruction with a main focus on difficulties regarding the ankles and feet. They are instructed to deal with complications ranging from conventional disorders for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more complicated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical training which give them the skill required to carry out surgical treatment on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and defend against many complications which the feet routinely encounter.
