Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors put in approximately 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and in fact various podiatry training programs lie within these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received considerable medical training with a focus on conditions pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to handle difficulties stretching from general ailments for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more challenging like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical instruction which give them the practical experience crucial to conduct surgery on those concerns that are best handled through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems permits a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of many conditions which the feet routinely experience.
