Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialise in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists devote approximately a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact various podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired substantial medical instruction with an emphasis on conditions concerning the ankles and feet. They are instructed to manage issues varying from commonplace afflictions for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more complex for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which provide them the prior experience essential to conduct surgical treatment on those concerns that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and reduce the chances of many complications which the feet usually experience.
