Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend approximately ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained thorough medical education with a main focus on difficulties involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to manage problems ranging from regular conditions for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical training which furnish them the experience crucial to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and minimize the risk of countless problems which the feet usually encounter.
