Physicians at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors invest around 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and as a matter of fact numerous podiatry programs are located within these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained comprehensive medical training with a main focus on difficulties concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat difficulties extending from general conditions like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more challenging for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which give them the practical experience essential to perform surgical treatment on those concerns that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against countless conditions which the feet commonly encounter.
