Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and numerous podiatry programmes lie within these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired thorough medical training with an attention to on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are instructed to deal with complications ranging from regular problems like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which give them the skill necessary to perform surgery on those complications that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatric doctor to create footwear and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and help prevent countless troubles which the feet regularly encounter.
