Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and quite a number podiatry training programs are located inside these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained significant medical instruction with a stress on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are studied to manage problems ranging from conventional ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical instruction which provide them the expertise needed to conduct surgical treatment on those conditions that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid many troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
