Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest about a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired considerable health care instruction with an emphasis on problems involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to treat conditions ranging from common ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical training which give them the expertise vital to perform surgery on those conditions that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of issues which the feet usually encounter.
