Medical doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programmes are located within these schools. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have acquired significant health care instruction with a stress on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are skilled to manage issues varying from basic problems such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which provide them the prior experience necessary to execute surgery on those problems that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and help prevent numerous problems which the feet generally encounter.
