Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in approximately 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs are contained inside these academic institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired extensive healthcare instruction with a focus on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to treat difficulties ranging from familiar disorders like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more complicated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which furnish them the prior experience required to perform surgical treatment on those complications that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems makes it easy for a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and defend against countless complications which the feet usually encounter.
