Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received thorough medical training with an attention to on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are educated to treat complications ranging from usual disorders such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more sophisticated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical instruction which give them the skill required to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems permits a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and defend against numerous issues which the feet generally experience.
