Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend about 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry programmes lie within these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired considerable medical instruction with a stress on problems regarding the ankles and feet. They are skilled to care for concerns varying from general afflictions for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which give them the prior experience necessary to conduct surgery on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors likewise have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems allows a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid a large number of conditions which the feet regularly encounter.
