Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend approximately ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and actually several podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired substantial medical training with a concentration on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to manage issues varying from usual conditions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more intricate for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which supply them the expertise necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of many issues which the feet commonly encounter.
