Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in point of fact quite a number podiatry programmes are contained inside these institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have gained extensive medical training with a concentration on problems involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to handle issues stretching from conventional afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical training which furnish them the experience essential to conduct surgical treatment on those complications that are best handled through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and defend against numerous complications which the feet routinely encounter.
