Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend an average of ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive medical training with an emphasis on issues regarding the feet and ankles. They are qualified to manage concerns ranging from general conditions for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more complex for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical education which furnish them the skill required to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and avoid many troubles which the feet usually encounter.
