Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They spend around 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired encompassing medical education with a concentration on problems involving the ankles and feet. They are taught to treat problems extending from general disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more perplexing for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical instruction which provide them the practical experience necessary to perform surgery on those concerns that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and reduce the chances of many troubles which the feet frequently experience.
