Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Specialists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists put in around 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in reality various podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired significant medical training with an emphasis on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to handle problems varying from commonplace afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical instruction which provide them the skill necessary to perform surgery on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous troubles which the feet typically encounter.
