Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and several podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired comprehensive health care education with an importance on concerns concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to care for issues varying from common ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which provide them the experience vital to conduct surgery on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and help prevent a large number of conditions which the feet usually encounter.
