Medical professionals at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend an average of 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained extensive medical instruction with an emphasis on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat issues ranging from general ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more perplexing such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which supply them the skill necessary to execute surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatrist to create footwear and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and minimize the risk of many conditions which the feet typically encounter.
