Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors devote an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs are contained within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received significant healthcare training with a main focus on complications involving the ankles and feet. They are trained to address complications ranging from regular conditions for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which provide them the experience necessary to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems permits a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of issues which the feet normally experience.
