Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and numerous podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received significant medical training with an emphasis on conditions concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to handle issues ranging from basic afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical training which furnish them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are best managed through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Comprehending biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and avoid numerous troubles which the feet routinely encounter.
