Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors put in approximately 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry programs are located within these institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive health care training with an attention to on complications pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are qualified to handle problems extending from simple conditions for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical training which give them the expertise required to carry out surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities empowers a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and prevent many issues which the feet routinely encounter.
