Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend around ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes are located within these schools. Upon getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained significant health care training with an importance on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are instructed to handle issues extending from typical ailments for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which supply them the experience necessary to execute surgery on those problems that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and minimize the risk of countless conditions which the feet regularly encounter.
