Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors devote an average of a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in reality several podiatry programs are located within these institutions. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received encompassing health care education with an importance on problems regarding the feet and ankles. They are trained to handle difficulties stretching from conventional ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more perplexing such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical education which give them the skill needed to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and help prevent numerous complications which the feet usually encounter.
