Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in about 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to standard medical school and in point of fact a number of podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have received thorough medical training with a concentration on problems regarding the ankles and feet. They are qualified to treat concerns varying from general problems such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more puzzling including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical training which provide them the experience crucial to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors likewise have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet normally experience.
