Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in reality quite a number podiatry programmes are located within these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained thorough medical training with an emphasis on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to address problems extending from usual disorders like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which give them the experience required to perform surgery on those complications that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and prevent countless complications which the feet frequently experience.
