Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. They invest about ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and a number of podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received considerable healthcare instruction with an emphasis on difficulties involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to care for difficulties ranging from normal disorders for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more challenging for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical education which provide them the experience necessary to conduct surgery on those conditions that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and help prevent numerous issues which the feet normally encounter.
