Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in reality several podiatry programmes are contained within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired wide-ranging medical education with a main focus on problems regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to deal with difficulties extending from basic ailments such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more puzzling including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical instruction which give them the practical experience required to execute surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities permits a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and avoid countless issues which the feet normally encounter.
