Specialists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They devote approximately a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in reality several podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive health care training with a stress on concerns involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are qualified to manage problems stretching from normal ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical instruction which give them the skill necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors additionally have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities enables a Foot doctor to create footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and defend against countless problems which the feet routinely encounter.
