Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They devote about ten years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact many podiatry programmes are located inside these academic institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired significant medical education with a concentration on concerns involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are qualified to treat concerns stretching from common problems for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical education which supply them the skill required to perform surgical treatment on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Podiatric physician to create footwear and orthotics that can offer pain relief and defend against countless problems which the feet regularly encounter.
