Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and in fact numerous podiatry training programs are located within these schools. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received wide-ranging health care education with a focus on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are studied to treat problems stretching from basic ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more complicated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which furnish them the practical experience essential to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid numerous problems which the feet generally experience.
