Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and many podiatry training programs lie inside these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have received significant healthcare training with a stress on issues concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to handle issues varying from simple problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical instruction which provide them the expertise required to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics that can offer pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous problems which the feet routinely encounter.
